The Hamptons Golf Club: My New Home Course + Membership Opportunity + No Longer Open to Public

The Hamptons Golf Club My New Home Course + Membership Opportunity + No Longer Open to Public

I’m proud to announce The Hamptons Golf Club is my new home course! It’s one of the nicest and best ranked golf courses in Calgary and I only live 5 minutes away. It’s awesome having such a beautiful course so close to home.

If you’re thinking about getting a golf membership, now is the time to do it! The Windmill Group is currently offering an incredible deal. Get an exclusive golf membership for only $14,900 with access to 8 courses (including The Hamptons and Mickelson National), plus unrivalled benefits, privileges  and options!

Memberships have been selling at such an unprecedented rates, that The Hamptons is back to being a private course. The golf course was temporary open to the public in 2013 and 2014.

Just over 60 days, 250-plus memberships … I think that’s pretty unprecedented,” said Barry Ehlert, the managing partner of The Hampton’s ownership company, Windmill Golf Group. “I’ve never heard of something happening quite that quickly. I’m proud of my team that they could accomplish that.

“I’ve been around the golf industry for a while, and it blew me away — the velocity and the pace at which we sold these memberships,” Ehlert continued.

“We did make an announcement that we were going to go to a private golf model, and I think we came up with an enticing offer, and, in conjunction with the announcement of the new Phil Mickelson golf course and the reciprocal privileges at both facilities, I think it just created a bit of a perfect storm.”

Indeed, Windmill Golf Group’s announcement last summer of its construction of the highly-anticipated Mickelson National Golf Club of Canada in Springbank has undoubtedly helped the membership drive of The Hamptons.

That’s because members of the hangout in northwest Calgary will enjoy the same access privileges at Mickelson National once it opens in 2017. In addition, membership benefits of The Hamptons extend to seven other courses in Alberta and Montana, including Wilderness Club and Wolf Creek Golf Resort, owned or managed by Windmill… Read the full Calgary Sun article here.

Harvest Hills Golf Course sold to a Residential Development Company

Harvest Hills Golf Course sold to Residential Home Builder

In major local golf news, Harvest Hills Golf Course has been sold to Cedarglen Homes (a residential home developer)! The city of Calgary will lose another golf course. Harvest Hills homeowners and residents were blind-sided by the news.

It’s too bad. It was a nice 9-hole golf course that was less then 15 minutes away from my house. We’re likely going to see this happen to more local golf courses in the near future as the city wants to see more densification instead of growing out.

QuantumPlace will be hosting three drop-in sessions for neighbourhood residents at the Harvest Hills Golf Course Clubhouse this week. The sessions are scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 4 at 5 p.m.; Wednesday, Nov. 5 at noon; and Thursday, Nov. 6 at 5 p.m.

Harvest Hills Golf Course is scheduled to close after the 2015 golf season.

McCall Lake Golf Course: City of Calgary Online Survey – Help Save McCall Lake!

McCall Lake Golf Course City of Calgary Online Survey - Help Save McCall Lake

Calgarian’s were outraged when the City of Calgary first announced they would close McCall Lake Golf Course at the end of the 2014 golf season. The City of Calgary later announced McCall Lake would remain open for an extra season and would close after the 2015 golf season. The plan was to sell the land for private development and was expected to raise between $30-$80 million for the city.

The timeline has been adjusted to allow for further analysis of potential site redevelopment and allow public engagement. The City has released an online survey to get your opinion. This is your chance Calgary to help save one of our few remaining public golf courses.

The City of Calgary is surveying Calgarians aged 18 years and older to gather input about the potential closure and redevelopment of the McCall Lake golf course. We are interested in your opinions even if you are not a golfer.

The survey will take approximately 5-10 minutes to complete and please be assured that all of your responses will remain confidential, and you will not be personally identified. Any personal information collected is under the authority of the Freedom of Information Protection and Privacy Act, Section 33(c), and is used solely for the review and improvement of City of Calgary customer related programs.

Should you have any questions about this survey, please call 311 and refer to the Calgary McCall Lake Golf Course Survey.

On behalf of The City of Calgary, we thank you for your time and feedback.

Flood Pictures of Kananaskis Country Golf Course

Kananaskis Flood Image 1

Here’s a follow up to the Kananaskis Country Golf Course: Closed for 2013 Season because of Flood! post that I published a couple days ago.

I found more flood pictures of what Kananaskis Country Golf Course looks like. All I have to say is OMG! No wonder they will be closed for the rest of the 2013 season. They got hit HARD – a lot worst then I imagined. I heard they were strapped for cash before the flood so I’m worried if they’ll be able to recover from this without having to make some major sacrifices or are forced to sell the course to a private company.  Kananaskis Country Golf Course was one of the best deals around for Alberta golfers. Expect huge green fee increase if a private company takes over.

Flood Summary of Impacted Golf Courses in Southern Alberta

Summary of Flood Impact of All Courses

The Calgary Sun released a very good article summarizing how the flood impacted each golf course in Southern Alberta.

(Note: This is a partial listing of courses in affected areas — current as of June 23. Check with your local course if it’s not listed here.)

Blue Devil Golf Course: – CLOSED – There was zero damage on any buildings or infrastructure, but a few holes were affected after the water broke through Fish Creek Park and continued onto the course at holes 15 and 6. There was no flowing water, just an increase in standing water expelled from the pond. Expecting to re-open mid-week, taking tee times from Wednesday forward.

Boulder Creek: – OPEN – No damage.

Calgary Elks: – OPEN – No damage.

Canmore Golf and Curling Club: – CLOSED – Director of golf Darren Cooke said the course was very fortunate. Mostly standing water issues, not much is damaged. A lot of holes are playable, however there is a flooded parking lot. Course staff is to meet Monday and provide an update. It could re-open mid-week.
Canyon Meadows: – OPEN – No damage.

Carnmoney Golf Club: – OPEN – Course suffered no damage. Business as usual.

Cottonwood Golf and Country Club: – CLOSED – Had water on eight holes. While the water has started to recede, crews are pushing silt off greens and the course has lost both bridges behind the buildings. There was an estimated seven feet of water in the clubhouse basement. Clubhouse is intact, but course is closed until further notice.

Country Hills Golf Club: – PARTIALLY OPEN – The Ridge Course will be completely open Monday. The Talons Course is closed until further notice, as some bridges and greens are under water and impassable. 18/36 holes open.

D’Arcy Ranch Golf Club: – OPEN – No damage

Earl Grey: – OPEN – No damage.

Elbow Springs Golf Club: – OPEN – There is no power at the clubhouse, but the course is open — walk-on and cash only. Two of three nines in good condition. Elbow nine has some damage.

Fairmont Banff Springs Golf Course: – CLOSED – According to @FairmontBanff, flooding that affected the course is receding. Normal ops expected to resume next week. Access from Calgary is uncertain, given TransCanada Highway was out.

Golf Canada Calgary Centre: – CLOSED – Images show a considerable amount of the facility is under water. Staff removed much of the equipment and merchandise from the clubhouse, but it’s too early to get damage estimates, since they’re blocked from returning to the property. All staff and tenants got out safely, Dan Pino reports.

Hamptons Golf Club: – OPEN – No damage.

HeatherGlen Golf Course: – OPEN – Course was untouched and it’s business as usual. All 27 holes open.

Heritage Pointe: – OPEN – Course suffered no damage. Business as usual.

Hidden Valley Golf Resort (Cluny): – ASSUMED CLOSED – Latest report was water was receding after flowing over Hwy 842 near the resort and ‘lapping’ on the course at the Blue Bridge.

Highwood Golf and Country Club (High River): – CLOSED – Course closed indefinitely. According to the course’s Facebook page, the “clubhouse looks in okay shape, water levels were below the admin doors at the highest point.” Waiting to access course to assess damage.

Kananaskis Country Golf Course: –CLOSED – Significant flooding of both the Mount Lorette and Mount Kidd. Course will be closed for the remainder of 2013 season.

Lakeside Greens (Chestermere)– OPEN – No damage.

Links of GlenEagles (Cochrane): – OPEN – Course was untouched and is business as usual. All 18 holes open.

Lynx Ridge: – OPEN – No damage.

McKenzie Meadows Golf Club: – CLOSED – Course was heavily affected by flooding and is currently closed. However, the golf academy programs are still operating and the clubhouse is available for functions. The driving range is closed, too, but is expected to re-open within the week.

Paradise Canyon Golf Resort (Lethbridge): – CLOSED – Course is closed Monday. Approximately five holes suffered damage. Course may be partially open by the end of this week. Most structures unscathed.

Priddis Greens: – OPEN – Some minor clean-up was required but no major damage.

Redwood Meadows Golf and Country Club: – CLOSED – Redwood is closed for now but is hoping to be partially open (9 holes) by end of this week. The course suffered damage to three holes and lost its irrigation. Course will rebuild holes 13 and 14 and repair 12. There is no ETA on when it will get back to a full 18.

River’s Edge Golf Club: – OPEN – While the course is down three holes (Nos. 13, 14 and 15), River’s Edge made them up on a modified driving range. The course is completely open, but there is no range.

River Spirit Golf Club: – PARTIALLY OPEN – Nine holes in the valley suffered flood damage. The course has 27 holes, so they are running a modified 18-hole course on the holes that weren’t affected. Staff estimate three weeks to a month for repairs.

Silvertip Golf Resort (Canmore): – CLOSED – Latest update is that the course is currently closed, but the clubhouse is in “great condition.” Access from Calgary still an issue on the highways. Aiming to have course open by Wednesday.

Silverwing Links: – OPEN – No damage.

Silver Springs: – OPEN – No damage.

Springbank Links: – OPEN – No damage.

Valley Ridge Golf Club: – PARTIALLY OPEN – Course is open on back nine only. Being so close to the river, water remains on three holes as of Sunday evening. Until that water is gone, they won’t know more.

Wintergreen Golf and Country Club: – CLOSED – A message on the pro shop’s answering machine indicates that, due to the flooding in the Bragg Creek area, the course is closed until further notice. The course reportedly fared well in the flooding but requires “a great deal” of clean up.
