Breaking News: Kananaskis Country Golf Course just posted this message on their Facebook page:

We are very excited to tell you that the Government of Alberta announced this morning that Kananaskis Country will reopen! Tourism, Parks, and Recreation Minister Richard Starke has confirmed that the Mt. Kidd & Mt. Lorette golf courses will be restored, along with other Provincial Parks infrastructure in Kananaskis Country.

We hope to see work begin later this summer or early fall so we can get back up and running as soon as possible. It’s expected to take 2-3 years to rebuild the courses.

Thank you to all of our supporters and well-wishers from Alberta and across the world who have reached out to us since the flood on June 20, 2013. We can’t tell you how much we appreciate your kind words and stories about how important the future of our courses are to you and your families.

Here is the official press release from the Government of Alberta regarding the very positive news about the restoration of both the Mt. Kidd and Mt. Lorette golf courses: http://alberta.ca/release.cfm?xID=36846E51D59FF-E537-553C-C5841606EDCF4431

I’m very excited about this amazing news! Kananaskis Country Golf Course is one of my favourite courses. There was a lot of fear that the course would never re-open after the devastating flood in 2013. Here’s a bunch of flood pictures and an unbelievable flood video.

Kananaskis Country Golf Course: Unbelievable Flooding Video!

Kananaskis Country Golf Course Unbelievable Flooding Video!

Here’s an unbelievable video that I found on Facebook showing you how bad the flooding was at Kananaskis Country Golf Course! My jaw dropped after watching the video. The course looks completely unrecognisable. It’s heart breaking to watch because Kananaskis was such a beautiful course and one of my favourites.

Here’s a follow up to the Kananaskis Country Golf Course: Closed for 2013 Season because of Flood! post that I published a couple days ago.

I found more flood pictures of what Kananaskis Country Golf Course looks like. All I have to say is OMG! No wonder they will be closed for the rest of the 2013 season. They got hit HARD – a lot worst then I imagined. I heard they were strapped for cash before the flood so I’m worried if they’ll be able to recover from this without having to make some major sacrifices or are forced to sell the course to a private company.  Kananaskis Country Golf Course was one of the best deals around for Alberta golfers. Expect huge green fee increase if a private company takes over.

Breaking News: Kananaskis Country Golf Course just posted this message on their Facebook page:

Dear Friends:

It is with a heavy heart that we announce Kananaskis Country Golf Course is closed for the 2013 season.

Record rainfall has caused severe flooding throughout our valley, making both the Mt. Kidd and Mt. Lorette layouts impassable. While we cannot measure damage until the waters of our rivers and creek beds recede, it will be some time before the courses will be playable.

Full refunds will be given to all with a confirmed tee time, including corporate golf groups. For the time being, we ask that calls to the golf course are limited to those urgent in nature, as we will be operating with limited staff during this time.

We are thankful that our staff and their families remain safe, and deeply appreciate your support and patience as our community recovers. We will continue to update our website (www.kananaskisgolf.com) and Facebook/Twitter with news as is warranted.

Our thoughts remain with those in our region during this time.

Sincerely,

Darren Robinson
General Manager
