Phil Mickelson wins the Masters, his third green jacket.

Despite a solid performance by Tiger Woods (finished tied for 4th), Phil Mickelson captures his third Masters title. Lee Westwood finished in 2nd, Anthony Kim in 3rd, and Canada’s Mike Weir finished tied for 43rd.

Standing behind the green — as always — was Mickelson’s wife, Amy, with her long blonde hair and easy smile, their three children at her side.
She had not been on a golf course since being diagnosed with breast cancer 11 months ago, and had stayed in bed most of the week.

“I wasn’t sure if she was going to be there,” Mickelson said.

A week of roars gave way to tears as they hugged for the longest time. Mickelson finally had to let go, and with a single tear trickling down his cheek, headed for the scoring hut to sign his card for a 5-under 67, the official stamp on a most compelling Masters.

Mickelson wins Masters, left PGA tour due to wife’s breast cancer

What a victory day for a man who suspended his PGA tour just last May because his 38-year-old wife, Amy, was diagnosed with breast cancer. The Associated Press noted: “Even sweeter than Phil Mickelson slipping into another green jacket was seeing his wife waiting for him behind the 18th green at Augusta National with tears streaming down her face.

“Amy Mickelson had not been at a golf tournament since being diagnosed with breast cancer 11 months ago.” Mickelson wins Masters and gets long embrace.

Tigers Woods and the 2010 Masters PGA Golf Betting Odds

Tiger Woods will make his much anticipated return to the PGA Tour as he and all of the top golfers will participate in the first major of the year as the Masters tees off on Thursday morning.

According to the sports betting world, Tiger Woods is the run away favourite to win the tournament and the green jacket with 4/1 odds.  Phil Mickelson is in second with 10/1 and Ernie Els at third with 11/1.

One looking for value in betting a long shot for the Masters might take a look at Anthony Kim who is returning 25-1 odds in the betting. Kim sits 4th on the money list in 2010 as he already owns 1 victory and two top 2 finishes on tour. Kim is coming off a victory in the Shell Houston Open with a playoff victory over Vaughn Taylor for the title.

Canada’s own Mike Weir has a 66/1 odd of winning after taking the tournament back in 2003. Unfortunately, Weir only has two tournament victories since and went more than three-and-a-half years after his second win at the Nissan Open in Feb. 2003 before winning his next tournament in Oct. 2007.

Tiger has never had this much pressure on him before. The entire world is watching him. I hope he can pull it off. Who do you have your money on?

Shaw will air Masters tournament in 3D

Canada’s largest cable provider, Shaw Cable this week announced it would be the first broadcast distributor in Canada to offer 3D-HD content to its subscribers.

The cable giant said it would offer up limited coverage of the 2010 Masters Tournament in stereoscopic 3D to any Shaw subscriber with a 3DTV, special 3D glasses and a Shaw HD cable set top box.
Customers without a 3DTV television, which is virtually the entire population of Canada, will be unable to watch the coverage in 3D.

For the fortunate few, 3D coverage will consist of two hours of commercial-free programming from the back nine each afternoon on channel 318.

The Masters Tournament, which takes place in Augusta Georgia from April 7th to 11th, is one of the four major championships in professional golf and since 1940 has been played so that the final round is always on the second Sunday of April.
