McCall Lake Golf Course to Close After 2014 Season

McCall Lake Golf Course to Close After 2014 Season

If you haven’t heard, the City of Calgary will be closing McCall Lake Golf Course after the end of the 2014 golf season 🙁

With increasing costs to operate the golf course, McCall Lake loses over $200,000 a year! The City of Calgary plans on selling the land for private development including industrial uses. The sale of the land is expected to raise between $30-$80 million for the city.

It’s going to be sad to see it go and will make it that much harder to find a tee time in the city. You should try to get out and play the course as often as you can before they close it forever.

With the throughput on that course, if you’re losing money, it’s grossly mismanaged.

I happen to enjoy getting out there every so often and it will definitely put pressure on getting a tee time at other courses. I never play the par 3, but I feel bad for the families who go there for recreation as there aren’t that many good options avaialable for the price.

It’s always sad to see one of our last affordalbe golf course’s closing down. hope its for a good reason and not to just put up another commercial area. I sure hope Maple Ridge isn’t next on the city’s agenda to get rid of more public green space’s that our tax dollars have paid for over the years
From me, and I’m sure a lot of other people in Calgary this will sure now limit our less costly golfing days
A big BOOOOOOOO! to the city of Calgary

I was shocked to hear closing this beautiful and affordable family course. There are millions of reasons to open more courses for Calgarian’s needs not other way around. I would very appreciate previous city planer to open these courses and reserved these green spaces. Not sure the value of the land will reduce the city budge short fall to what level. It is absolutely a short term vision against Calgarian’s life style and demands. I am hardly imagine if there will be a chance to open a new course in those junky brown spaces around us in my life.
The decision was made so quick without any public hearing at least not me to aware of. Is this the right way what city should do?
